Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf publicly criticized his former political mentor and former governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Speaking to a crowd in Kano, Yusuf warned that if Kwankwaso continues to speak in a certain way, he would respond with remarks that the former presidential candidate would not appreciate.
Yusuf’s comments followed Kwankwaso’s remarks in an interview, during which the former leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) accused him of betrayal and pledged to defeat him in the 2027 governorship election.
“How can a 69‑year‑old man call someone who is 63 a boy? I tolerated that because of obedience,” Yusuf said. “If he doesn’t keep quiet and control his words, I will start saying things he wouldn’t like. I believe peace and stability in Kano State are paramount, but if we’re pushed too far, we will speak out,” he added.
The Daily Post notes that Yusuf was elected under the NNPP platform in the 2023 general elections before defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
