Senator Philip Aruwa Gyunka, a senior APC figure in Nasarawa State, allegedly avoided an assault by suspected political thugs while en route to the Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye‑election that has just finished.

The claim came from Ango Ngharni, a media aide to Governor Abdullahi Sule, who released a statement on Tuesday.

He said the incident took place on Saturday, June 20, when the former senator was traveling to his hometown of Gbuje to participate in the by‑election.

Ngharni alleged that attackers armed with machetes and axes intercepted Gyunka’s convoy and tried to assault him.

The aide said Gyunka emerged uninjured, though his vehicle was reportedly damaged.

Ngharni condemned the incident and urged a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible.

At the time of reporting, security agencies had not released an official statement on the alleged attack, and the assailants’ identities and motives remain unknown.
