The All Progressives Congress (APC) has selected Usman Banye, a close ally of Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, to contest the Rimi/Charanchi/Batagarawa Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.

Banye was chosen during the party’s primary held on Saturday in Charanchi, following the withdrawal of two other candidates.

Stakeholders, members and supporters assembled at the Rimi Local Government Secretariat for the primary before the other aspirants withdrew.

The withdrawal letters from the departing candidates were later endorsed by party leaders and stakeholders throughout the constituency.

Governor Radda, who attended the primary, presented Banye’s name to party supporters, indicating his status as the APC consensus candidate.

Katsina APC Chairman Bashir Gambo Saulawa noted that the Electoral Act permits both direct primaries and consensus arrangements for selecting candidates.

He added that consensus is preferred when candidates reach a mutual agreement, as it fosters party unity and limits internal conflict.

Yakubu Maccido, chairman of the APC Consensus Screening Committee for House of Representatives aspirants in the state, described the process as peaceful and transparent.

Tasiu Dandagoro, chairman of the Constituency Consensus Committee, said Banye emerged after the other aspirants voluntarily stepped aside for the sake of party unity.

At the time of this report, the APC primary for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency was still underway, with reports of opposition to Yusuf Buhari—son of former President Muhammadu Buhari—by another aspirant, Awual Daura.
