Governor Alex Otti of Abia State was declared the Labour Party’s candidate for the state governorship race on Saturday, having faced no opposition.
The declaration was made by National Organising Secretary Mrs Oluchi Okpara, who served as the returning officer for the primaries held at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia.
In the same session, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South, secured the Labour Party’s senatorial nomination for a sixth term. Abaribe, who won his seat in 2023 on the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform, had recently switched to the Labour Party after a brief period with the ADP.
Senator Darlington Nwokocha, who was previously unseated by the Court of Appeal in a contest against incumbent Senator Austin Akobundu, also emerged as the Labour Party candidate for Abia Central.
All incumbent Labour Party members of the House of Representatives from Abia, including Amobi Ogah, received their renewal tickets.
