Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang secured a decisive win in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary, receiving an unprecedented 233,335 votes. His opponent, Yilchini Jan Bida, managed only 3,070 votes across the state’s 17 local government areas.
The outcome was formally announced on Friday night at the State APC Secretariat in Jos by Fidelis Mnyim Bemse, Chairman of the APC Committee for the Plateau State House of Assembly and Governorship Primary Election. Bemse reported that Mutfwang carried every ward and unit in the state.
According to Bemse, the primary involved 240,832 registered voters, with 236,405 votes cast.
The returning officer noted that Governor Mutfwang achieved sweeping victories in several local government areas, including his home council of Mangu, as well as Jos North, Kanke (where Bida is from), Kanam, Jos South, Shendam, Langtang North, and Wase.
Bemse provided a detailed breakdown of the results: in Jos North LGA, Mutfwang received 26,652 votes to Bida’s 68; in Mangu LGA, he polled 28,095 votes against Bida’s 46. In Kanam LGA, Mutfwang earned 19,509 votes to Bida’s 119, while in Shendam LGA, he secured 17,208 votes compared to Bida’s 389.
The governor’s strongest performances were in Qua’an Pan and Kanke LGAs, where he obtained 687 and 481 votes, respectively.
When declaring the final results, Bemse affirmed that Mutfwang met all constitutional requirements of the party and received the highest number of valid votes.
“Therefore, Caleb Mutfwang, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitutional guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected,” the returning officer announced.
With this announcement, Gov. Mutfwang is now the official APC candidate for the Plateau State governorship in the 2027 general elections.
