Genesis 1:27 (KJV): “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

We all know that the Almighty God created the first man and woman, provided for them, and met their needs before they asked.

God then gave them a directive in verse 28: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

Many interpret “replenish the earth” simply as having more children, but the Lord’s purpose was to ensure that humanity would eventually subdue the earth and exercise dominion over all living things.

Isaiah 46:9‑10 reminds us that God declares the end from the beginning and that His counsel shall stand: “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none like me. Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.”

Recently, several couples have experienced the breaking of barrenness, giving birth to multiple children after years of waiting. Some achieved this through in vitro fertilisation (IVF), others through natural conception.

When people ask, “If she gave birth after IVF, why is that a testimony?” we must remember that while doctors have knowledge, they are not all‑knowing. The Bible says in Daniel 1:17 (NIV): “To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.”

Science is valuable, but the Bible teaches that God is the ultimate source of life. The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital’s motto, “We care, God heals,” reflects this belief.

In recent months, families have been blessed with multiple babies, fulfilling a prophecy by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who said that God would visit families with multiple babies.

We previously published a story about a woman over 50 who, after many unsuccessful doctors, underwent IVF and delivered a baby girl. The doctor who succeeded credited God for the outcome, saying he had not done anything different, only that God chose to answer the woman through him.

Even when IVF is successful, some embryos are aborted. Exodus 23:26 (KJV) states, “There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill.” This reminds us that not every pregnancy leads to motherhood.

Regardless of scientific advances, we still need God’s hand to bring healing and nurture a pregnancy from conception to delivery. One woman who underwent IVF three times, losing a set of twins and other embryos, continued to pray. After almost 15 years, she gave birth to a baby boy.

Medical procedures can fail if God does not breathe life into them. In marriage, both partners share the burden of barrenness, though the woman’s experience is often more visible.

God is not bound by time and can end any yoke whenever He chooses. No challenge is too great for Him, but we must present our cases and remain steadfast in prayer.

King David wrote in Psalms 20:1‑3: “The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee; Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion; Remember all thy offerings and accept thy burnt sacrifice; Selah.” Here, offerings and burnt sacrifice refer to days of prayer and fasting, which open ways for answers.

Let us appreciate science while giving glory to God. Jesus said in John 15:5, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

God can replace years of tears, loneliness, and mockery with blessings that surprise even the testifier. Let us give God glory always. Hallelujah!
