Gift Orban: Key reason Super Eagles invitee joined Amedspor

Newly promoted Turkish Super Lig side Amedspor have officially completed the signing of Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban from German club Hoffenheim, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 24-year-old has joined the Turkish club on a season-long loan deal, with an option that could make the move permanent at the end of the campaign if certain conditions are met.

The transfer brings an end to the uncertainty surrounding Orban’s future. He had been widely expected to leave Hoffenheim this summer after falling out of the club’s plans, with no realistic path back into the first team. 

Orban spent last season on loan at Hellas Verona, where he impressed with his performances. However, an altercation with a fan late in the campaign, alongside the club’s relegation, ended Verona’s hopes of signing him on a permanent deal.

After returning to Hoffenheim, it quickly became obvious that he no longer had a future at the Bundesliga club and a move elsewhere was the best option if he wanted regular playing time.

That opportunity has now arrived with Amedspor, where Orban will be hoping to make an immediate impact as he begins the next chapter of his career.

Why Gift Orban chose Amedspor

Although Gift Orban also attracted interest from Serie A side Bologna this summer, the move never materialized, paving the way for his switch to Amedspor.

Speaking in an interview, the Super Eagles invitee’s agent, Atta Aneke, explained that Orban was convinced by the club’s ambitious vision and long-term sporting project, which aligned with his own objectives.

“Gift believes Amedspor are an ambitious club with a clear project and a huge fan base”, Aneke said, via Footy-Africa.

“After speaking with the club, he felt their vision matched his own ambitions. He is excited to join them and help the team achieve its goals this season.

“He is delighted to move to Turkish football because he knows it is a highly competitive league that has been home to many successful Nigerian players. Gift is looking forward to the challenge, settling in quickly and contributing to the team’s journey in the top flight.”

Orban has now become the latest Nigerian player to move to Turkey, joining a growing list of Super Eagles stars in the country’s top flight. He follows Kelechi Iheanacho, who also recently completed a move to Bursaspor.

The 24-year-old will now be aiming to hit the ground running at Amedspor as he looks to establish himself as one of the club’s key attacking players and help lead their push for a successful season.
