Ghana Police Arrest Soldiers and Officers Linked to Deadly Robbery Ring

The Ghana Police Service announced that it has arrested seven people, including two military personnel and three police officers, for their alleged role in a robbery syndicate that carried out several attacks in Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi and Takoradi.

The statement, posted on the police’s official social media accounts on Tuesday, said the arrests were carried out by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector‑General of Police (IGP).

The investigation began after Ivorian investor Mousa Bamba reported that he had been lured to the Dzorwulu area under the pretense of buying six kilograms of gold worth US$450,000.

Bamba said that when he arrived, the suspects pretended to be officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and military personnel before robbing him at gunpoint and fleeing.

Following Bamba’s complaint, police arrested two suspects, Mohammed Umaro (also known as Alhaji) and Gabriel Sewornu (also known as Dangote).

Further investigations linked additional suspects to the operation, including two soldiers, Lance Corporals Eugene Akurugu and Emmanuel Arko (also known as Bullet), and three police officers: Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga.

The police said the officers have been interdicted to allow a full investigation into their conduct.

Intelligence‑led operations by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the IGP also led to the arrest of Justin Oduro (also known as Don King and Mafia), Clement Gyasi and Farouk Zakari between 23 and 24 May 2026.

“All suspects are currently in police custody assisting investigations, while efforts continue to arrest other accomplices connected to the syndicate,” the Ghana Police Service said.
