AbdulAziz Umar, the son of former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has announced that he will run for the House of Representatives seat covering the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in Kano State on the ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Choosing an NDC nomination marks a clear break from the family’s long‑standing affiliation with the APC and signals a shift toward the political sphere of his father’s former ally and ex‑Kano governor Dr Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
A video circulating on social media shows AbdulAziz discussing his political goals and his collaboration with Kwankwaso, thereby publicly aligning himself with the former governor’s growing political network.
The NDC, which Kwankwaso joined after departing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been building momentum across Kano State, drawing both established politicians and grassroots supporters.
Political observers note that AbdulAziz’s entry is likely to heighten competition in the constituency, setting the stage for a potentially high‑stakes contest against an APC candidate. The race is already being described as one of the most closely watched 2027 contests in the state.
