FUOYE Suspends Deputy Dean Over Alleged Extortion, SUG President Responds

The administration of Federal University Oye‑Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two senior officials and the president of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) following allegations of illegal money collection from students.

Registrar Mufutau Ibrahim named the suspended personnel: Olanrewaju Ogunjobi, Director of the Directorate for Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Banji Rildwan Olaleye, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Support Services; and James Iyanuoluwa Adio, SUG President.

According to the registrar, Ogunjobi and Olaleye were accused of demanding N1,000 from each first‑year student as a “tax” for hands‑on classes organized by the directorate. The fee was allegedly collected without the approval of the university senate, management, or the bursary office, violating established payment procedures.

To ensure due process, FUOYE established an investigative committee. The committee found that Ogunjobi had authorized and collected the N1,000 from each affected student. Olaleye allegedly assisted in the unauthorized collection, despite his role in the student affairs department. Adio was said to have been involved indirectly; he reportedly helped initially share the money and later requested reimbursement, resulting in N700,000 being transferred to his personal bank account.

Registrar Ibrahim emphasized that the actions of the accused contravene the university’s anti‑corruption stance and could damage its rebranding efforts and reputation. “FUOYE will not tolerate any form of student extortion, misuse of position, improper financial conduct, or corruption,” the statement read.
