Nigeria will begin its campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by facing Madagascar, Tanzania and Guinea‑Bissau, following the Confederation of African Football (CAF) draw for the qualifying stage.
The draw, which sets the path to the expanded 2027 finals that will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, divided 48 teams into four pots of 12. Each group contains one team from each pot, and the top two teams in every group will qualify for the finals.
Defending champions Morocco were placed in Group A, joining Gabon, Niger and Lesotho.
South Africa, benefiting from recent progress under coach Hugo Broos, received a favourable draw and will compete in Group D.
A notable storyline in Group D is the encounter between South Africa and hosts Kenya, whose coach is former South African international Benni McCarthy, adding an emotional dimension to the fixture.
Other headline clashes include a heavyweight pairing in Group C between Ghana and Ivory Coast, a repeat of the 2015 AFCON final.
The qualifying campaign will start in September 2026 and run until March 2027.
