Blessing Ibunge in Port Harcourt
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has denied claims that he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirming that he remains a party member.
The statement was made yesterday after the governor toured the Neuropsychiatric Hospital and the newly built General Hospital in Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt.
Fubara said the defection rumors stem from social‑media speculation and misreading of events, and urged the public to ignore the reports.
He reiterated that he will continue to work for the interests of the ruling party.
“I know that there has been a lot of drama in the media, with one story or the other. I am a member of APC and nothing has changed,” he said.
“People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly.”
“I have not gone anywhere, I am still a member of APC and I remain a member. Whatever happens, what is most important is supporting the overall interest of the party,” he added.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the state, emphasizing that protecting residents’ lives and welfare remains a top priority.
He explained that the new General Hospital was created to address limited access to quality healthcare, especially mental‑health services, in the area.
Previously, many residents had to travel long distances for medical care, with the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital being the nearest facility.
Fubara said his administration decided to use available space within the hospital premises to establish a General Hospital that would serve Rumuigbo, Rumuola, Rumuolumeni, and surrounding communities.
