Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez is preparing for a challenging friendly against the Super Eagles, reports the DAILY POST.
The Seleção das Quinas will face the three‑time African champions at Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria on Wednesday night.
The match will serve as a rehearsal for the Europeans, who will later meet an African side, the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Martinez described Nigeria as a demanding opponent with considerable tactical flexibility.
The coach said that playing against Éric Chelle’s side would help ready his team for the upcoming fixtures.
“Against Nigeria, we have an opportunity to work on aspects that are similar to the strengths that Congo also has. It’s a different African team, with a lot of tactical flexibility. It’s a demanding opponent, it’s another test to prepare our group,” Martinez was quoted by the authoritative Portuguese website ojogo.
