French Open: Sabalenka Loses Another Grand Slam Opportunity

Aryna Sabalenka’s recent loss in the French Open quarter‑finals feels like a missed chance to add another major title to her growing résumé.

The world No. 1 was defeated 3‑6, 7‑5, 6‑0 by Russia’s Diana Shnaider, leaving the Belarusian to reflect on a disappointing exit.

Over the past two years, Sabalenka has dominated women’s tennis, winning 11 WTA titles and holding the top ranking for 93 consecutive weeks.

Despite her achievements, some critics argue that her four Grand Slam singles titles fall short of what her performance and the high positions she has secured at majors would suggest.

With no other major champions remaining in the draw, Sabalenka entered the Roland Garros tournament as the clear favorite to capture her first title there, yet she lost a set and a double‑break advantage to Shnaider.

“Maybe I’m focusing too much on the fact that I’ve never won a Slam here,” Sabalenka said. “Maybe it makes me overthink and over‑emotional.”
