The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State held its senatorial primary elections on Wednesday ahead of the 2027 general election, selecting candidates for the state’s three senatorial districts.
After the exercise, Mr. Nura Khalil, who ran as the 2023 New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) gubernatorial candidate, was chosen as the PDP consensus candidate for Katsina South Senatorial District. Hon. Aliyu Abdulmumini Abdullahi secured the ticket for the Daura Zone.
Hon. Hamisu Gambo was likewise selected as the PDP senatorial candidate for Katsina Central Senatorial District during the party’s primary, which was conducted peacefully across all three zones.
The primary elections were held simultaneously in each zone and were monitored by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, party leaders, and delegates from the relevant local government areas.
Shortly after his nomination, Khalil thanked the delegates and party leaders for their confidence in him and pledged to strengthen the PDP in the Funtua zone ahead of the 2027 polls.
Gambo responded by assuring party supporters of inclusive representation and ongoing grassroots mobilisation to help the PDP secure victory in Katsina State in the upcoming elections.
During his acceptance speech at the party headquarters in Katsina, Gambo reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to addressing insecurity, economic downturn, and unemployment in the state. He praised the peaceful conduct of the primary and called on all candidates and supporters of the opposition to unite for the party’s overall success in the state.
In a separate address, PDP governorship aspirant Senator Yakubu Lado urged party members to turn out in large numbers on election day and cast their votes for the PDP. He warned them to vigilantly monitor the voting process and results, stating that the PDP has everything it needs to win the 2027 polls.
“Come out and vote massively for the PDP on election day, and make sure you stay back in your polling units to defend your vote to avoid manipulation,” he said.
Earlier, the state PDP Chairman, Hon. Nura Amadi Kurfi, announced the party’s readiness to reclaim political power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. He promised a return to what he described as Nigeria’s “glorious years” under PDP’s 16th years of governance.
He called on party members to remain united and avoid any actions that could diminish the PDP’s chances of winning the forthcoming elections.
