Colonel Sani Bello (retired), who once governed the former Kano State, has called on the federal government to merge police forces with military operations and bring retired soldiers back into service to bolster efforts against banditry and insurgency nationwide.
Bello, a former army officer and diplomat who led the old Kano State from 1975 to 1978, voiced the appeal in an interview with Premier Radio Kano over the weekend.
Bello said that government and security agencies already have the information on the whereabouts of well‑known bandit leaders and the means to neutralise them, if political will is present.
“Wherever these bandits are hiding, the government knows their locations. Security personnel know exactly where they are and how to reach them,”
