The former governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, was spotted at the Lagos Directorate 1 office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Awolowo Road in Ikoyi.

A senior source within the commission suggested that Okowa’s visit may be connected to the ongoing investigation into alleged abuse of office and fraud.

The anti‑graft agency has been probing Okowa since he left office over accusations that he diverted N1.3 trillion—13 percent of derivation funds—from the Federation Account between 2015 and 2023.

He was first arrested on 4 November 2024 and held for questioning at the EFCC’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate.

According to the source, the former governor was seen at the Lagos office attempting to secure the release of his international passport so he could travel abroad for urgent medical treatment.

At the time of this report, it was unclear whether the commission had granted his request and returned the travel document.

Efforts to obtain an official comment from the EFCC spokesperson, Mr Dele Oyewale, were unsuccessful; his phone did not answer when contacted.

The probe into the N1.3 trillion derivation funds is one of the commission’s high‑profile cases, targeting alleged mismanagement of oil revenue by former officials.
