Shehu Wada Sagagi, a former Chief of Staff to the Kano State Government, claims that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has blocked several attempts to reconcile with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

In an exclusive interview with a local radio station, Sagagi described the ongoing political tension between the governor and his former mentor.

He said the reconciliation effort began early after concerns that the dispute could deepen within the ruling political bloc in Kano State.

According to Sagagi, Kwankwaso had expressed a willingness to seek peace and had asked him to contact Governor Yusuf to address the grievances that were widening the rift.

“I met the governor and conveyed Kwankwaso’s message to him. He personally set a date for a reconciliation meeting, but later failed to honour it,” Sagagi said.

The former aide added that he made further attempts to remind the governor about the proposed meeting, but that his calls and messages were ignored.

“I reached out more than once to ensure the meeting was held, but he stopped responding to my messages. At that point, the reconciliation effort could not move forward,” he added.

Sagagi maintained that Kwankwaso remained open to dialogue throughout the process, insisting that several opportunities were created to resolve the differences quietly.

Sagagi’s statements are expected to spark new debate over reported fractures within Kano’s dominant political structure, especially amid recent speculation about the relationship between Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso.

Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, was not immediately available for comment on the issues raised by Sagagi as of press time.
