Former Aston Villa player stays upbeat about Zimbabwe’s prospects against the Super Eagles in the Unity Cup.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba has expressed optimism about Zimbabwe’s prospects against Nigeria in the opening match of the Unity Cup, according to Afrik‑Foot.

Nigeria will begin its title defence at the Valley on Tuesday, facing a Zimbabwe side that has denied them victory in their last three encounters.

In the previous four meetings, the Super Eagles have scored no more than once against the Warriors, and Nigeria’s last win over Zimbabwe dates back to 2014.

Given this recent history, the Warriors will enter the match with confidence in securing a positive result.

While the three‑time African champions boast quality players such as Femi Azeez, Terem Moffi and Philip Otele, who can create havoc on their day, the Zimbabweans also possess notable talent.

Their squad includes Marshall Munetsi, Tawanda Chirewa, Tino Kadewere and Nakamba, the captain and talismanic midfielder.

What Marvelous Nakamba Said About the Super Eagles Match

Having faced Nigeria’s Super Eagles twice before, Zimbabwe captain Marvelous Nakamba knows what it takes to compete against the three‑time African champions.

In a pre‑match interview, he praised the squad’s energy and preparation.

“We’ve been preparing well for the match tomorrow against Nigeria,” Nakamba told ZIFA. “Everyone is pushing each other in camp and morale is high, so we’re looking forward to the game tomorrow.”

The fixture promises to be an exciting encounter, with a confident Zimbabwe side aiming to exploit a transitional Nigeria squad that features many new faces. The winner will advance to the final on May 30 to face either India or Jamaica.
