Dr. Mathias Byuan, a former Executive Director of Housing, Finance and Accounts at the Federal Housing Authority in Abuja, purchased the Labour Party’s (LP) expression‑of‑interest and nomination forms on Friday to run for governor of Benue State in 2027.
Byuan also reiterated his support for the re‑election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
He was accompanied by a large number of other aspirants who bought expression‑of‑interest and nomination forms for the state House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate seats across Benue’s three senatorial zones.
After receiving his forms, Byuan explained that, although he is contesting the governorship under the LP, his presidential candidate remains President Tinubu. He said he aligns with the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Byuan praised the president’s transformative agenda and argued that Tinubu deserves to be re‑elected to finish ongoing projects, some of which are underway in Benue.
He urged his supporters to vote for President Tinubu of the APC, for Byuan as governor, and for other LP candidates in Benue State in 2027.
Byuan said he chose the LP platform to express his desire to serve the state, noting that a political party is merely a vehicle for contesting elective offices.
“Let me therefore call on Benue people to join hands with me in this rescue mission, to salvage the state from insecurity and bad governance that has plagued the state under the Alia administration.”
“As you can see, the current Benue governor is unable to pay even salaries of workers, leading to statewide strikes by health and local government workers, as being observed in the state.”
“Let me also assure you that, under my leadership, security and welfare of the people will be prioritized, while other sectors, such as health, education, shelter, rural infrastructure, such as roads, and basic health facilities will take special attention,” he added.
A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the governorship aspirant, Akange Nyagba, said that various speakers at the party secretariat pledged unalloyed support for the guber hopeful, saying Benue would get it right this time.
Byuan previously contested on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform in Benue State before defecting to the LP.
