Foden Still England’s Best Number 10, Says Sherwood

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has urged that Phil Foden be deployed in a central, creative role for England, calling him a top talent who should be included in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI.

After a string of strong displays for Manchester City this month, Sherwood stressed that Foden is essential to England’s World Cup plans.

“I would find it very difficult not to put him in my team, let alone to put him on the plane. He has to be on the plane, he would be in my team, I would find a place for him,” Sherwood said on Sky Sports.

“No one plays better in these areas than Phil Foden, he’s got wing mirrors, he sees things before they come. If you asked Harry Kane who do you want to play behind you, he’d say Phil Foden please.”

England face stiff competition for the number 10 spot, with Morgan Rogers, Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Foden and potentially Morgan Gibbs‑White all in contention for the starting role.
