First Lady to Visit Benue on Tuesday to Launch Projects and Empower Women

Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, will travel to Benue on Tuesday as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). The trip will include meetings with women, the inauguration of several infrastructure projects, and the opening of a community ICT centre.

A statement released on Sunday by Mr. Tersoo Kula, chief press secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, confirmed that the visit is part of a nationwide programme designed to empower women, strengthen families and improve the welfare of vulnerable groups.

During her stay, Mrs. Tinubu—who also chairs the Renewed Hope Initiative—will engage with local women and beneficiaries of the scheme to deepen the initiative’s grassroots impact across the state.

Gov. Alia described the visit as a positive example of collaboration between the federal and Benue governments in advancing the welfare of citizens, especially women and families.

A key event will be the commissioning of ten newly completed intra‑city roads in Makurdi. These roads are part of more than 45 that the Alia administration has built.

Spanning approximately 11.5 kilometres, the new roads are expected to improve mobility, stimulate economic activity and enhance residents’ quality of life. They include Ishaya Bakut Road (Dual Carriageway), three spurs, Abu King Shuluwa Road, Mama Mbateren Alia Street, Dabo Plaza to Fashion Hub Road, Sir James Iorpuu Street, Tyagher Gbaa Street, and Jato‑Aka Road.

Mrs. Tinubu will also travel to Ihugh, where she will inaugurate and hand over a community ICT centre.

Benue Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Mrs. Scholastica Bensor, said preparations for the programme were complete. She added that women across the state were eager to welcome the First Lady and urged residents, community leaders and support groups to attend in large numbers.

Bensor noted that the visit would further strengthen efforts to empower women and promote sustainable development in Benue.
