Favour Aruwa Habibatu, a 500‑level law student at the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, might have cancelled her trip from Choba if she had realized the danger she was heading into. She may have sensed something ominous about her boyfriend’s home but did not heed the warning signs.

People close to her reported seeing her in Choba on Tuesday before she boarded a vehicle bound for Warri, Delta State, to visit her boyfriend, Michael Ade. In Warri, residents on Ayidi Street in the Edgeba area of the oil‑rich city remembered seeing her that evening purchase groceries. Several of them, speaking off‑camera, noted that Favour and Michael were frequently seen together in his Lexus SUV.

“They were a regular sight in his jeep. They were clearly in a serious relationship. She was always visiting him,” they said.

However, that Tuesday night something unusual occurred in Michael’s apartment. The landlord of the compound heard Favour screaming for help, and he immediately summoned local youths and called the police.

Simultaneously, he used his own vehicle to block Michael’s SUV.

Michael subsequently emerged from his apartment, insisting that the landlord move his car because he had an emergency and needed to leave. However, the landlord and the youths, who had already arrived before the police, demanded that he escort them into his apartment to explain why his girlfriend was screaming.

He had no alternative but to comply.

They discovered his girlfriend lying in a pool of blood on the floor, shocking them.

Saturday Vanguard reported that Michael allegedly stabbed Favour multiple times before she died. When the police arrived, they arrested him and transported her remains to the morgue. Neighbors speculated that he killed her for ritual purposes.
