Alex Ekubo’s death continues to resonate throughout the entertainment sector, and Nollywood actor‑filmmaker Stanley Ajemba, known as Stanley Ontop, said the late actor had been privately fighting stage 4 liver cancer since 2024.

The disclosure arrived only hours after news of Alex Ekubo’s death stunned colleagues, fans and members of the Nigerian film industry, many of whom were unaware of how serious his illness had been.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday evening, Stanley Ontop detailed the actor’s final days, noting that Alex received intensive treatment, including a liver transplant, after being diagnosed with the terminal disease.

He said that after the operation the actor briefly resumed work, which raised hopes that his health was improving.
