ABUJA — The Federal Government has assured Christians that it is aware of their concerns over insecurity and other socio‑economic challenges facing the country, pledging continued engagement to address issues relating to safety, welfare and economic opportunities.

The assurance was given by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, during the National Executive Council meeting of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Abuja.

The meeting comes amid ongoing concerns among Christian leaders over insecurity, freedom of worship, access to justice and the rising cost of living.

Akume said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recognises the concerns of Christians and other Nigerians regarding security, equal opportunities, religious freedom and participation in national development.

“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recognises the legitimate concerns of Christians and other citizens regarding safety, equal opportunities, freedom of worship, access to justice and participation in national development.”

“We will continue to engage relevant stakeholders in addressing concerns relating to security, social welfare, education, youth development and economic empowerment,” he said.

The SGF reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening institutions responsible for protecting fundamental rights and upholding the rule of law.

He added that the Federal Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for Christians to continue contributing to national development through education, healthcare, humanitarian services and community development.

Akume acknowledged that Nigeria is still facing significant challenges, including insecurity, inflation, youth unemployment, economic uncertainty and social tensions.

However, he said the country has continued to demonstrate resilience and that the Tinubu administration remains focused on delivering the objectives of its Renewed Hope Agenda.

“While some of these reforms have required sacrifices from citizens, government remains resolute in ensuring that the long‑term benefits translate into improved living standards, economic opportunities and sustainable development for all Nigerians,” he stated.

He further assured that the government would sustain dialogue with CAN and other faith‑based organisations on matters relating to national unity, security, religious freedom, education, youth empowerment and poverty reduction.

Akume also urged Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence, stressing that the country’s ethnic, cultural and religious diversity should be a source of strength rather than division.

He commended Christian and Muslim leaders for promoting interfaith dialogue and mutual understanding, and called on religious leaders to continue serving as ambassadors of peace, reconciliation and national unity.
