President Bola Tinubu on Thursday issued a stern warning to contractors that his administration does not reward patronage but competence.
Tinubu said if contractors deliver their jobs promptly they would get more jobs but if they fail they would be booted out.
He issued the warning during the commissioning of the Old Keffi Road from Kado Fish Market to Deidei to mark his third year anniversary in office and was represented by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
Commending the contractor that handled the road project, Tinubu said the turn out of residents is a testament that his administration is trusted.
He said: “I’m happy to witness the restoration of dignity to the daily lives of this area, the fully rehabilitated 16 km road from Kado village through Life Camp to Deidei Junction by the outer Northern expressway is now completed and open for business.
“This is not a promise on paper, it’s asphalt that you can drive on, life that you can trust after dark and drainage that would safe both homes and market.
“Under this government, we do not reward patronage, we reward competence, if you deliver you get more work and if you fail you are out of the FCT, the minister is not even a minister that would waste time, he will tell you straight that I can’t work with you, you can’t drag me backward; forward ever and backward never.
“It gives me great joy to witness what I’m seeing here today. This is what happens when the governs have trust in the government. It gives me great joy to witness the restoration of dignity to a road that people traverse daily.
“I have already gone through parts of the road and I have seen the amount of businesses almost all construction material are sold here, today you have improved their business and I tell you something that prosperity have returned to this area.”
