The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has issued a two‑week deadline to Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) under the Metro Area Command to eliminate robbery and other security threats in Abuja’s city centre.
This directive was announced in a statement released on 19 June 2026 by the FCT Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
According to the statement, the order was given during a meeting between the commissioner and the 17 DPOs serving under the Metro Area Command, which aimed to review the current security situation and strengthen operational strategies across the command.
The commissioner highlighted a range of security and traffic‑related problems in the city centre, including traffic robbery, vehicle snatching at gunpoint, the activities of “one chance” syndicates, motorists driving against traffic regulations, commercial motorcyclists on major roads, vandalism of public and private property, indiscriminate parking on highways, and traffic congestion.
“He therefore ordered the DPOs to end these crimes within two weeks or face the consequences,” the statement read.
Sanusi also instructed all DPOs and the Area Commander of the Metro Area Command to focus their operations on the city centre, while he would personally oversee security challenges in the FCT’s suburban areas.
The commissioner warned against negligence and tasked the Area Commander with providing effective leadership and ensuring compliance with the directives.
The FCT Police Command urged residents to continue supporting security operations by providing timely and credible information to the nearest police division or through the command’s emergency lines.
