FCT Police debunks false kidnapping alarm at Gbagalape Primary School

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed social media reports that a kidnapping had taken place at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja, calling the incident a false alarm that sparked unnecessary panic in the community.

In a statement signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the police said officers from Nyanya Division received a distress call on 4 June 2026 at about 10:30 a.m. reporting an alleged abduction at the school, which prompted the immediate deployment of security personnel to the area.

The Divisional Police Officer in Nyanya quickly mobilised operatives and surveillance teams to the school premises after receiving the report.

Preliminary findings indicated that panic began when some pupils reportedly shouted “kidnappers,” causing students and staff to rush out of classrooms in confusion.

The school was secured and thoroughly searched by responding officers.

The statement further noted that after comprehensive sweeps of the school environment and questioning of individuals within and around the premises, no evidence of kidnapping was found, no suspect was identified, and no victim was discovered.

Adjacent areas, including nearby hills and surrounding schools, were also searched as part of precautionary measures.

The Command urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified reports that could trigger fear and tension in the area.
