FCT Police boss gives metro DPOs two weeks to curb robbery, traffic-related crimes

ABUJA — Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has issued a two‑week deadline to Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) operating under the Metro Area Command to reduce robbery and other security problems in the capital.

The directive was announced in a statement released on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, after a security meeting between the commissioner and the 17 DPOs who serve the Metro Area Command.

During the meeting, the current security situation in Abuja was reviewed and strategies were discussed for countering emerging threats across the city.

CP Sanusi highlighted a range of security and traffic‑related offences, including traffic robbery, vehicle snatching at gunpoint, “one‑chance” robbery syndicates, motorists driving against traffic, illegal commercial motorcyclists on major roads, vandalism of public and private property, indiscriminate parking on highways, and persistent traffic congestion.

He ordered the DPOs to intensify operations and ensure that these challenges are significantly reduced within two weeks, warning that non‑compliance would result in sanctions.

The commissioner also instructed the Metro Area Commander, who oversees the DPOs, to provide effective leadership and enforce strict adherence to the order.

He said that while efforts would focus on restoring security and order in the city centre, he would personally supervise operations targeting security issues in the suburbs.

CP Sanusi emphasized that negligence and laxity would not be tolerated, urging officers to remain proactive and committed to protecting residents and visitors in the Federal Capital Territory.

The FCT Police Command has called on the public to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information at the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities via the command’s emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 07057337653.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security and ensuring the safety of lives and property throughout Abuja.
