The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, issued a stern warning to land grabbers in Abuja on Thursday, urging them to allow communities to benefit from the dividends of democracy.
Wike delivered the remarks during the commissioning of the newly constructed Airport Road (Bill Clinton Drive) to the Tunga Madaki Community, a project that marks the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He said, “When these people come to you to do things for them, ask them, where were they when you had no road to the airport?”
“Let me warn the land grabbers who are here: allow the communities to enjoy the dividends of democracy because you too deserve it,” he added.
The minister praised the community’s leadership for the level of engagement they maintained with his administration during the project’s conceptualisation phase.
He noted that the community made reasonable demands such as employment opportunities and road construction, all of which were met.
“For you, we would not have known the community called Tunda Madaki. They requested jobs, and we employed them. They requested roads, and your Excellency, the day we came to flag off this road sometimes last year, I never believed that we had this level of suffering of our people not having access to the city,” he said.
“Look at the international airport; this is their own community, but they can’t come. But today, Tinubu’s government has said Renewed Hope. What’s the essence of Renewed Hope? This community has lost hope and they don’t believe in government, but the emergence of his administration has renewed hope for them,” he added.
