FCC committee calls for fairness and inclusiveness in public service

The Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) reiterated its commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and balanced representation within Nigeria’s public service.

During an interactive session with the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), held at the FCC headquarters in Abuja, the committee was chaired by Hon. Peter Eze.

The meeting was part of the committee’s oversight activities, which aim to assess compliance with the Federal Character Principle across government institutions and agencies.

Hon. Eze emphasized that the committee remains dedicated to ensuring transparency, accountability, and equitable representation throughout Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

He explained that the engagement was essential to strengthen adherence to constitutional provisions that govern federal character, particularly in appointments, recruitment, staff development, and the distribution of opportunities within public institutions.

He also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the FCC and regulatory agencies in fostering national cohesion and administrative fairness.

The SURCON delegation was led by Surveyor-General and Registrar Surveyor Olugbemiro Kunle, while Dr. Bayero Salih Farah headed the NITT delegation.

During the discussions, participants examined issues related to institutional efficiency, compliance mechanisms, inter‑agency cooperation, and ways to improve communication among government agencies.

The leaders of SURCON and NITT reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism, accountability, and adherence to government regulations that guide public service administration.

The committee further stated that stronger oversight and institutional cooperation are necessary for effective service delivery and better implementation of federal character principles across sectors.

Members of the committee present at the session included Hon. Halima Ahmadu Jabiru, Hon. Eludayo Eluyemi, Rt. Hon. Victor Sabor Edoror, Hon. Engr. Modu Mustapha, and Hon. Sani General Garba.
