In Ado‑Ekiti, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose reiterated his endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s bid for a second term in the upcoming June 20, 2026 governorship election.
He said that the PDP members who were instrumental in electing President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji previously would repeat that support in the forthcoming governorship contest and the 2027 general elections.
The statement was made in Ado‑Ekiti during the final event of Oyebanji’s campaign tour preceding the June 20 gubernatorial vote.
Fayose noted that the group known as “Iruwa Ogiri wa” continued to support Oyebanji and pledged to maintain his administration beyond 2026.
He added that the present administration had maintained a standard of governance and political inclusiveness that warranted a second term.
Fayose emphasized that, although he remains a PDP member, he publicly backed Oyebanji due to the governor’s strong performance and leadership.
“It’s the votes of the strangers (PDP) that brought Tinubu into power then. It’s our votes that brought the current governor in and will still bring him in again.”
“We, the Iruwa Ogiriwa, are with you and we are going to stand by you. The fact remains that something has to be done. Show me your opposition either in town or elsewhere.”
“I’m not a member of APC, I’m a member of PDP, but we want to assure you that this good work must continue.”
“We therefore commend Governor Abayomi Oyebanji to remain in office till 2030. On behalf of all the former governors, we commend and identify with Governor BAO to remain in office till the year 2030.”
Governor Oyebanji reiterated his pledge to provide further democratic dividends following a potential reelection, noting that many planned infrastructure projects remain unfinished.
He added that the governorship election serves as a proving ground for President
