Favour Ofili returns to Diamond League in Rome showdown

By Emmanuel Okogba

Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili is scheduled to return to the Diamond League on Wednesday, June 4, when she competes in the women’s 200 metres at the Rome leg of the series.

The 22‑year‑old, who is currently ranked World No. 8, will face a highly competitive field that includes reigning World Champion Melissa Jefferson‑Wooden of the United States, Olympic 200 m champion Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, and British sprinter Dina Asher‑Smith.

Ofili has been absent from competition in recent weeks after the collapse of her planned switch of athletic allegiance to Turkey. She arrives in Rome with a season’s best of 22.46 seconds, set in Gainesville, Florida, last month.

The Rome 200 m is expected to be a top‑tier race, giving Ofili a vital chance to measure herself against the world’s best as she builds momentum for the major championships later in the season.
