Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze said he almost slapped a member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) during a dispute over an unpaid match bonus.
Udeze explained that the incident happened after a game in which the players expected to receive the full bonus that had been promised to them.
Speaking on an episode of the The 5th House podcast shared on X, the former defender recalled how an NFF official tried to pay only part of the agreed amount.
“Seriously, no joke, in 2003/2004 I almost slapped an NFF member,” Udeze said.
He added that after the team’s victory, the players were supposed to receive $5,000 each. The official approached JayJay’s room and Kanu’s room, saying he would pay $2,500 first and the balance later when the team returned to the national squad.
JayJay and Kanu directed the official to Udeze’s room. When he arrived, Udeze was given a pen to sign, but the official appeared to be unaware of the full payment. “I asked him what had happened and why the money was incomplete,” Udeze recounted. “He said there was no money available and that the balance would be paid next time. I told him to speak with the captain because no one had signed yet, and I was not supposed to be the first to sign.”
