Ex-Ondo Gov, Olusegun Mimiko, Joins APC

Former Ondo State governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday at the Ward 7 Secretariat of Ondo West Local Government Area in Ondo town.

Mimiko, who had recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was welcomed by the Ward Executive, the Local Government Executive, and the state chairman of the APC, Hon Kolawole Babatunde, along with party supporters from Ondo City.

“There are a lot of good things being done by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‑led government, and though much more will still have to be done, I am coming in to lend my support to ongoing efforts to keep Nigeria on the path of peace, progress and genuine development,” Mimiko said after formally joining the party.

“The NELFUND initiative to democratise access to education is another commendable effort of Mr. President, which must be applauded. As an avowed supporter of state police, I also welcome the current effort to decentralise policing, which is another reason I am happy to be part of the current effort under Mr. President,” he added.

Although many of Mimiko’s close associates had moved to the APC before the last governorship election in Ondo State, he remained with the PDP and played little or no active role until his resignation more than a month ago.

In his resignation, he said he needed to dispel speculation about his status, stating that having been somewhat distanced from party activities, he was “no longer a member of the PDP.”

Welcoming Mimiko on behalf of the governor and other party members in the state, Babatunde said the former governor was a progressive in all respects, having achieved remarkable results in health, education, infrastructure and many other areas during his tenure.

“Mimiko is a progressive all through and his coming into the APC is like a homecoming,” Babatunde said.

Also speaking, former Member of the House of Representatives for Ondo East and West Federal Constituency Hon. Joseph Iranola Akinlaja noted that Mimiko’s arrival into the APC marked the final movement of the Mimiko political movement into the party in Ondo State.
