Emmanuel Obasi, the former husband of actress Judy Austin, has clarified that the emotional moment in which he broke down during a recent podcast interview was unrelated to his ex‑wife.

Obasi issued the clarification in a video posted on Wednesday, after a clip of his appearance on the HonestBunch podcast went viral.

During the interview, Obasi became tearful while discussing the collapse of his marriage and allegations involving actor Yul Edochie. The scene, in which he wiped tears from his eyes with a handkerchief, drew widespread attention.

Addressing the incident, Obasi apologized to viewers for becoming emotional, explaining that painful memories had triggered his reaction.

“I want to use this opportunity to apologise for crying on that podcast; it was not my fault. I was emotional; I didn’t travel from Onitsha to Lagos to cry. Forgive me and bear with me; something triggered me,” he said.

The businessman also denied claims that he broke down because of Judy Austin, stating that online reports suggesting so were false.

According to him, he is no longer concerned about his former relationship and is focused on a more personal issue.

“I also want the world to know I am not crying over a woman; I am only crying over my children,” Obasi stated.

He explained that his emotional outburst stemmed from his desire to have a closer relationship with his children.

Obasi also criticized critics who mocked him over the handkerchief he used during the podcast, urging Nigerians to focus on the message rather than the object in his hand.

“Nigerian men should be careful. Imagine your fellow man comes out crying, saying he wants to see his children; you left the matter, and you were talking about his handkerchief; why not focus on what I am saying?” he said.
