EPL: Paul Scholes says Chelsea should replace Alonso with a problematic player

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has named Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez as the player the club’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, should consider replacing.

Scholes made the comment during an interview with former United teammate Nicky Butt on the “The Good, The Bad & The Football” podcast.

“I think the goalkeeper is a problem there at Chelsea; he’s a liability. He can’t play the way they will want to play,” Butt said.

Responding, Scholes added, “With the way Chelsea will play, I agree. He can’t do it. I’m pretty sure Xabi Alonso will want to play that way, to build out from the back, so he will need a new goalkeeper then.”

Alonso is set to take charge of Chelsea after being appointed as the club’s new manager on a four‑year contract.
