Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has said he would pick Paris Saint‑Germain manager Luis Enrique as the club’s permanent head coach, if the Spaniard were available.

Ferdinand also acknowledged that Michael Carrick has earned a full‑time managerial role at United.

United had appointed Carrick as caretaker after sacking Ruben Amorim a few months earlier.

Under Carrick’s brief tenure, the club secured a place in next season’s Champions League.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Ferdinand said: “He [Carrick] would be my first choice, given the lack of options that are around right now, considering what he’s done and the lack of options.”

“The only person I would be looking at seriously and saying, ‘Do you know what? Regardless of what Michael Carrick has done,’ is Luis Enrique, if he became available.”

“He’s a great manager. If he’s available, then I don’t care what Michael Carrick has done; you take him because of what he’s achieved at PSG.”
