EPL: Alonso’s remarks after being named Chelsea’s new manager

Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, expressed his enthusiasm following his appointment.

The club confirmed Alonso’s role as the Blues’ head coach on Sunday morning.

Alonso, who previously managed Real Madrid, will take charge on 1 July 2026 after signing a four‑year contract at Stamford Bridge.

In a statement on the club’s website, the Spaniard said he aims to assemble a squad capable of winning trophies.

“Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football, and it fills me with immense pride to become manager of this great club,” Alonso said.

“From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear we share the same ambition. We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies.”
