Premier League legend Alan Shearer has predicted Pep Guardiola’s next role as the Spanish coach prepares to leave Manchester City this summer.

Shearer believes Guardiola will move into international management for his next position.

The final Premier League match of the season, a game against Aston Villa on Sunday, is expected to be Guardiola’s last as City’s head coach after a decade at the club.

Shearer added that it may take some time before the manager returns to club football.

The 55‑year‑old former England captain has previously been linked with the Brazil national team and thinks an international post could suit Guardiola after ten years of relentless pressure and success at City.

He told Betfair, “What lies ahead for Pep Guardiola after City? A break! I believe it will resemble what we have observed in the past; he might take a year off and then return revitalised and ready to go again.”

“I can envision him leading an international team; I won’t claim it’s less demanding, but perhaps it won’t be as intense, presenting a different challenge for him,” he added.

It has been widely reported that former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is set to succeed Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
