Enugu Government Imposes Movement Restrictions in Six LGAs Ahead of Bye‑Election

The Enugu State Government has imposed a restriction on human and vehicular movement in six Local Government Areas of the Enugu North Senatorial District for Saturday’s by‑election.

The directive was issued in Enugu by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia, and released to the press on Friday.

The affected LGAs are Igbo‑Etiti, Igbo‑Eze North, Igbo‑Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu and Uzo‑Uwani.

According to the statement, the restriction will be in force from midnight (12 am) until 6 pm to ensure the by‑election is conducted peacefully, orderly and credibly.

It added that INEC staff, security personnel, accredited election observers, media practitioners and other individuals officially authorized to carry out election duties will be exempt from the restriction.

The statement also disclosed that security agencies have been instructed to enforce strict compliance with the movement ban.

Residents of the area were urged to behave peacefully and fulfill their civic duties in line with electoral guidelines.

The government called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to remain law‑abiding before, during and after the election.

It thanked the people for their cooperation and understanding, and wished the residents of Enugu North a peaceful and successful election.
