Eleven family members of suspected Boko Haram fighters—five women and six children—have surrendered to soldiers of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State.
The information was released by Zagazola Makama, a counter‑insurgency and security specialist focused on the Lake Chad region.
The report states that the surrender occurred around 6:00 pm on June 24, 2026, at separate sites in Banki, within Bama Local Government Area of the state.
Makama noted that four women and four children from Chongolo village voluntarily surrendered to the 152 Task Force Battalion, while another woman and two children from Ladantar surrendered to the 151 Task Force Battalion at Banki Junction.
The report indicated that preliminary profiling by the military identified the 11 individuals as family members of suspected Boko Haram fighters who had reportedly fled insurgent enclaves seeking safety.
“Preliminary profiling revealed that all 11 individuals are family members of Boko Haram terrorists who fled insurgent enclaves in search of safety,” he said.
Following documentation and profiling by the troops, the surrendered individuals were transferred to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Bama for further processing and rehabilitation in accordance with established procedures.
Makama added that the surrender is part of a continuing wave of defections from terrorist enclaves amid ongoing military operations under Operation Hadin Kai.
The report also noted that troops remain on alert throughout the operational theatre as counter‑insurgency efforts continue in the North‑East.
