The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has criticized the federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for failing to announce free train services ahead of the upcoming Eid Kabir festival.
MURIC’s statement, signed by Executive Director Professor Ishaq Akintola, was provided to DAILY POST on Monday evening.
DAILY POST notes that the 2026 Eid Kabir festival is less than 48 hours away.
In the statement, Akintola recalled that the federal government had previously offered free train services during the Christmas season and, in recent years, during Easter celebrations.
Akintola said MURIC had waited until Monday evening, hoping the government would act, but no announcement was made.
He added that the government’s failure to declare free train services prompted the organization to raise the issue.
Akintola described the lack of an announcement as unjust, stating, “We waited patiently until Monday evening before issuing this statement. The Salah festival is just 48 hours away and there has been no announcement yet as far as we know as at 8:39 p.m.”
He continued, “We are grossly disappointed by FG’s attitude on this issue. Free train rides have been offered by FG for the past three years during Christmas and Easter. Sometimes the free rides last more than… Is this proper? Why is there no free train for Salah while Christmas and Easter are always favoured? What is FG trying to tell us?”
