The Nigeria Police Force announced on Friday that it has finished deploying security forces and setting up operational plans for the Ekiti State governorship election, which is scheduled for Saturday.

The deployment covers every one of the state’s 2,545 polling units, as well as key infrastructure, major entry and exit routes, border communities, and other strategic sites.

Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, explained that a multi‑layered security framework has been put in place to ensure the election is peaceful, credible, and free of disruptions.

He said that security personnel and operational assets have been positioned at polling units and other identified locations to protect voters, electoral officials, observers, and election materials throughout the process.

Inspector‑General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, added that all officers assigned to election duty have received thorough briefings on their responsibilities and rules of engagement, and will carry out their duties professionally, impartially, and in line with the law.

The Police Force warned that any electoral offences or actions that could undermine the integrity of the process will be prosecuted under the Electoral Act and other applicable laws.

It urged residents to remain law‑abiding and conduct themselves peacefully during the election period.

Members of the public were encouraged to report security concerns immediately through the dedicated election emergency line, 080062335577, which will stay active throughout the election to enable swift response and intervention.

The police also urged eligible voters to participate in the election peacefully and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation, while cautioning against the spread of unverified information that could cause panic or disrupt public order.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property in Ekiti State and to ensuring a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election.
