Ekiti election: Heavy security presence in Ikere-Ekiti

On Saturday, a large number of police officers and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were stationed throughout Ikere‑Ekiti in preparation for the upcoming Ekiti governorship election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) noted that Ikere‑Ekiti is the hometown of the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Mrs. Monisade Afuye, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede.

NAN also reported that police officers had sealed both the entry and exit points of the town to enforce the movement restriction order that applies during the election.

Vehicles and motorcycles were stopped at checkpoints, and residents were permitted to move only on foot. Shops and restaurants were closed and locked.

Accredited journalists covering the election were allowed to enter the town in vehicles marked with INEC stickers.
