An Ekiti State High Court in Ado‑Ekiti sentenced Oluwapelumi Adewale Ogundipe to three years in prison for stealing, after dismissing the armed robbery charge that had originally brought him before the court.
The judgment was issued in Suit No. HAD/32C/2025, State vs Ogundipe Oluwapelumi Adewale, before High Court 4.
Ogundipe had been arraigned on conspiracy and armed robbery charges involving Alasi Kolawole. Prosecutors alleged that the defendant and others conspired to rob the victim, an offence that carries severe penalties under Ekiti State law.
During the trial, the prosecution counsel, Kunle Sina Adeyemo Esq., Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in Ekiti State, presented evidence to support the charges. After reviewing the facts and testimony, Justice A.A. Adeleye found that the prosecution had not fully established the offence of armed robbery.
However, the judge determined that the evidence proved the lesser offence of stealing. Accordingly, Ogundipe was convicted of stealing and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.
The defendant was represented by counsel A.O. Okeya Esq., who defended him throughout the proceedings.
This judgment reflects the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice’s recent efforts to secure convictions in criminal cases and ensure accountability for offences committed within the state.
