The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claims that Nigeria’s democracy has degenerated into a system of vote buying.

PDP spokesperson for Ekiti State, Atofarati Sanya, made the statement during an interview with Arise Television on Saturday night.

He was responding to the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, which was held across the state on Saturday.

The party also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its members of engaging in vote trading.

“Democracy in Nigeria has now been reduced to the trading of votes, contrary to the electoral act,” Sanya said.

“What we witnessed in Ekiti State is sad and unfortunate. The APC was present at the polling units without any checks,” he added.

“It is regrettable that security authorities were present yet could not curb these irregularities,” he remarked.
