The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State reports that at least eight notable figures have expressed interest in running for governor on the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party said this development demonstrates growing political momentum and rising public confidence in the ADC as a vehicle for credible, people‑focused leadership.

In a statement signed by the party’s Rivers State Chairman‑Elect, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, the ADC noted that the level of political interest generated within the state party is unprecedented.

The statement lists the interested candidates as a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government; a former member of the House of Representatives who also served as Executive Director of Marine and Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority; another former House of Representatives member who was Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); a former Commissioner for Employment Generation; a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH); a prominent architect; and several private‑sector leaders and entrepreneurs.

The party added that a number of other qualified individuals have indicated interest in running for Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly seats throughout the state on the ADC platform.

The statement linked the growing interest to the recent announcement by former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi that he will vie for the presidency of Nigeria on the ADC ticket.

The party described Amaechi’s declaration as “another major milestone in the growing national momentum around the party.”

“This development sends a very clear message: ADC is no longer viewed as an alternative party. ADC is now increasingly being seen as the vehicle for the future,” the statement said.

The ADC noted that the influx of experienced politicians, professionals and technocrats into the party reflects a growing belief among Nigerians that the nation needs a fresh political direction grounded in competence, accountability and inclusive governance.

The party affirmed its commitment to internal democracy, transparent processes, peaceful political engagement and issue‑based campaigning as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

“This momentum is organic. This momentum is real. And this momentum is growing every day,” the statement concluded.
