Former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar urged Nigerians to participate in politics without bitterness, arguing that such an approach is vital for producing credible leaders and advancing national development.

He delivered the message on Wednesday in Minna after attending the two‑rak'āt Eid‑el‑Kabir prayer at the city’s Eid praying ground, where he joined other Muslim worshippers in the celebration.

Abubakar emphasized that peace is a prerequisite for meaningful progress and called on Nigerians of all ethnic and religious backgrounds to continue praying and working toward unity, stability, and development.

The former Head of State also prayed for Allah’s intervention to bring lasting peace, stability, and prosperity to Nigeria, noting that the country can only overcome its challenges through collective effort and mutual understanding.

During his remarks, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago urged Muslims to use the Eid period to seek forgiveness and pray for a Nigeria marked by peace and economic prosperity.

Bago expressed optimism about the country’s future, insisting that Nigeria would surmount its challenges through love, mutual respect, and collective commitment, and he encouraged citizens to remain hopeful.

Dignitaries present at the prayer ground included former Niger State Governor Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, the Emir of Minna Umar Faruk Bahago, and Mohammed Ibrahim Babangida, son of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida.

Other attendees were Commissioner of Police for Niger State Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, members of the State Executive Council, and additional senior government officials.

The Eid prayer was led by Malam Habibu Mai Basira.
