EFCC recovers N27 million for FUNAAB after 15‑year property dispute

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered ₦27 million that belonged to the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) after a 15‑year dispute over property transactions involving estate agents.

Vice Chancellor Olusola Babatunde Kehinde explained that the money was originally paid in 2011 to purchase properties intended for the university’s Abuja liaison office and guest house. “The arrangement failed due to administrative and legal complications, preventing the university from taking possession of the buildings,” he said.

According to FUNAAB, attempts to resolve the issue on its own were unsuccessful, leading the institution to request the EFCC’s intervention. The anti‑graft agency investigated the case for two years before recovering the funds, which were remitted to the university in April 2026.

The university confirmed that suspects involved in the transaction have been charged by the Commission. Kehinde praised the EFCC for the successful recovery, noting, “The successful recovery is not only a significant institutional achievement for UNAAB, but also part of the EFCC’s commendable success story in safeguarding public resources.”
